Strathlorne House brewing is inspired by its namesake, the historic Reverend James Smith property located in the beautiful Stewiacke Valley. Called “Strathlorne House” after his home in Scotland, this registered heritage property was built in 1833 by one of the early Presbyterian ministers serving the Valley. Bought by Meghan and Al in 2020, the idea for a brewery followed soon after.
This is a family run operation, with sisters Keltie and Meghan Jamieson supporting the brewmaster, Al Wilson, Meghan’s husband. All are beer lovers, but Al’s experiences as a chemist and in the military are a big part of what have given him the skills to scale up from being an enthusiastic home brewer to creating his own beer for sale.
Traditional and accessible beers are the focus, as these resonate with both the local beer drinkers who are the backbone supporting the brewery on a day to day basis, as well as with the ambiance of the property itself.
Currently brewing and sales are being run out of a property two doors down from The Reverend James Smith House, in an outbuilding of a home that at one time belonged to the community and was used to house the village doctor.
