|Once again, the folks of Good Robot Brewing Company are working to put together a stellar line-up of entertainment, food, and beers for your intersectional feminist enjoyment! FemmeBot takes place from March 6 to 10, the week of International Women’s Day, and invites women and those who identify as women everywhere to drink beer brewed by women, eat food prepared by women, and attend programming carefully put together by women.
“I look forward to this all year,” says Kelly Costello, brew team member and BetaBrew Manager at Good Robot. “We’re a craft beer bar that has really made a name for itself, and it feels good to use that name in celebration of women, both the incredible ladies that work here and women everywhere. Taking up space for ourselves and making space for other women is really important in all seasons – this week-long event serves as a great annual reminder. It’s also a time for us to just let loose and celebrate each other in a positive environment.”
The flagship event of the week is Cheers for Lady Beers, which features two events in one:
1. a tap takeover featuring only beers designed and brewed by women at breweries across the Maritimes, including a collaboration beer brewed by the women of Good Robot and Tatamagouche Brewing, and
2. the announcement of the results of the FemmeBot Homebrew Competition, which is an annual homebrew competition judged by professional Beer Judge Certified Program judges and open only to women. Last year’s winner of the competition had never brewed beer before. In an industry in which only 4% of brewmasters are women, the FemmeBot Homebrew Competition is intended to inspire future brewsters.
In addition to the flagship event, FemmeBot Week will include events ranging from lighthearted to topical: spoken word poetry (with Mariah Pelley Smith and Deirdre Lee), industry panels, storytelling, dancing, movie screenings and even a Stitch ‘n’ Bitch event in which guests can voice their concerns to the room on a variety of topics.
Proceeds of each event will be going to local nonprofit organizations (TBD).
